Food info for cooking for the Parlee family, Fall 2020

For those who are going to cook for Bob and Isabel and Ian, here’s a summary of some of the best-for-healing, healthiest food recommended by Bob’s trusted doctor:

  • Veggies: just about every single one, especially cruciferous ones, dark leafy greens, and root vegetables.

  • Grains: organic if possible. More brown rice and whole wheat flour than white rice or flour.

  • Protein: beans, soy, peas and lentils are fantastic! Also fish high in Omega-3, halibut, salmon, or bluefish. Nuts are good. Avoid lots of red meat, chicken, ham, bacon, sausage and the like.

  • Fruits: all good!

  • Dairy: doc recommends keeping amounts low, substituting nut milks for cow milk. Soy, rice or coconut milk ice cream better than ice cream made with dairy. Organic Earth Balance, Spectrum Spread or Miyokos Vegan Butter are better than butter.

  • Avoid cane or brown sugar, but rice syrup, maple syrup, etc. ok in moderation. Avoid artificial sweeteners.
